|“What product should I apply first?” This is probably one of our most frequently asked questions. And knowing the right answer can make a big difference in your skin’s improvement. The order in which you apply your products definitely affects their performance. Even if you’re using the most effective products, you may not be getting the full benefit if you’re not applying them in the correct order.
The consistency of a product affects the order of application. Serum should always be applied first to clean, dry skin. It’s absorbed the fastest by the skin and usually contains the most active ingredients. It should be followed by any gel product you may be using. Next, you should apply a lotion, and finally a cream. So the thickest consistency should always be applied last.
You should wait 1 to 2 minutes between each product application to allow enough time for it to be absorbed by the skin. In the morning, remember to always apply your sunscreen last when using a serum or a moisturizer and follow it with makeup (foundation, blush, powder etc.). And remember: more is not better. So don’t waste product by applying thick layers. The only product you should apply thickly is your sunscreen; everything else should be applied in moderation. This basic rule of thumb will help you get the most out of your products and help you achieve the best results.
