ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS:
What's in my moisturizer?

Have you ever taken the time to examine the ingredients in your moisturizer's label? Assuring that your moisturizer contains the right active ingredients for your skin type is a must if you hope to keep your skin adequately hydrated without contributing to breakouts.

Moisturizers are divided into two categories: humectants or emollients. Knowing the differences between the two is of a paramount importance.

By nature, humectants attract water and hydrate the skin from the inside out. The best humectant active ingredients are: glycerin, sorbitol, urea, lactic acid and hyaluronic acid. Commonly, these ingredients are found in oil-free formulas designed to add moisture to skin without promoting oiliness. These ingredients are important components of two of our very best moisturizers: DermaQuest Advanced B5 Serum and is Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum.

Emollients, on the other hand, create a protective barrier that prevents the moisture present in your skin from evaporating. Because this protective barrier can clog pores, they are generally not recommend for those who are prone to blackheads or breakouts. Two commonly used emollients are petrolatum and lanolin. A superb emollient moisturizer to consider is Karin Herzog Vita-A-Kombi 1 Cream.

For some, especially those of us living in dry climates, a humectant and an emollient moisturizer can be combined to deliver excellent results. For example, you might apply Cellex-C Hydra 5 B-Complex as a base moisturizer and follow with Karin Herzog Vita-A-Kombi 1 Cream.
